Preventative Procedures
Radiographs (X-rays)
Your dentist can keep an eye on your oral hygiene through regular radiographs (x-rays). It’s a great advantage to not only see between teeth, but also the entire root system. There’s a lot more to teeth than meet the eye and radiographs help bridge that gap.
Adult and child cleanings and exams
Regular dental cleanings are essential to prevent cavities and gum disease. During a prophylaxis, the tooth is scrubbed with a specific paste that frees it from plaque and staining. Afterward, the dentist is able to identify any cavities or future problems much easier.
Deep Cleaning (Scaling and Root Planing)
Plaque that solidifies into tartar is difficult to remove with just a toothbrush or prophylaxis cup. To remove tartar from teeth, your hygienist, dental assistant, or dentist will need to scrape it off with scaling techniques and root planing.
Dental Exams
Routine exams are the best way to stay on top of your oral health. Plan to see your dentist at least once every six months. At your appointment, your dentist will exam each of your teeth, your gums, and your overall oral health.
